Lazarus, the Cleft Palate Cat is a Vine Superstar

You don’t need to be classically beautiful to be a star.  Rescue cat Lazarus was born with a cleft palate. The physical deformity leaves him without the appearance of a nose and overexposes his lower teeth, but he still manages to charm thousands of fans on Vine.  According to Lazarus’ official Facebook page, he was found at only 10 weeks old by a student at East Tennessee State University. Although the sickly kitten suffered an infection in his mouth, caretakers soon nursed him back to health.

Kitten Survives 6,500-Mile Trip In China-U.S. Container

A three-month-old kitten is recovering in California after surviving a journey across the Pacific in a shipping container from China, without food or water, officials said Tuesday. The orange-and-white animal has been named Ni Hao, or Hello in Mandarin, after being found when the container was opened last week, following the two-week, 6,500-mile (10,450-kilometer) trip from Shanghai. At first he was too weak to stand, but the shorthaired kitten is finally taking its first steps — and officials are now seeking a local cat-lover to adopt him.

Stowaway Kitten Back In Marin

A cat that wandered into the engine compartment of a van – and ended up traveling from Mill Valley to Santa Cruz – is back in Marin County. “She is quite adorable and in very good shape, with no apparent injuries or illness,” said John Reese, a spokesman for the Marin Humane Society, which is providing a temporary home for the wayward feline at its Novato shelter. “She is healthy and in full purr.”
